Columbia Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is a great place to work. I love the people. I began working here 6 years ago as a Respiratory Therapist. I love taking care of the residents. They are not clients, they are people. These last 6 years have been the most enjoyable. I love on the residents and take care of them.
I have worked here for 24 years. Started out in housekeeping and laundry, moved to housekeeping supervisor then to a CNA. It is a learning experience here every day. I enjoy spending time with the residents.
When I walk down the halls at Cornerstone and see the patients, I see my family. They know me and always ask about my daughter. They don’t live where I work, I work where they live. I enjoy making them laugh, dancing, and singing with them. They are a part of my life. Even when I’m not at work I think about them and wonder how they are doing. I don’t see my life without my patients. They are mine!
McKinney is my hometown; I grew up here. It’s always been on my heart to work with the elderly since I was a little girl. I used to go with my grandma to the nursing home and I would sit and play BINGO and Dominoes with the ladies. I love being at McKinney, I love our team. Some of our team have been here for 10-20 years. Even our new staff, it seems they have been here a while because we work together as a family. A special memory I have is seeing how we came together as one when the flood occurred. We came together to care for our residents to ensure they were safe. One of my special memories is the Christmas in July party we had. We dressed up in luaus and even had a Santa! We wanted to come together and celebrate with our residents and staff as there has been a lot of difficulty with COVID.

When I became a nurse, I knew I wanted to help people and be there for people in need. I’m proud to say that I celebrated my 1-year anniversary at Marrero health care on 9/30/21. I truly enjoy coming to work in such a family-friendly atmosphere.
