Our 10-bed memory care neighborhood, lovingly named Teakwood Way, is designed to create a functional, secure and home-like environment that meets the various needs of those living with dementia. At Teakwood Way we embrace “Walking the Journey Together”; a person- centered philosophy of care that utilizes a Social Model. We understand that quality memory care is about the person behind the illness, rather than simply addressing the symptoms. We enter the world of those we serve and believe that regardless of their circumstances, our residents deserve the highest quality of life, coupled with respect, honor and dignity.
The heart of our program begins with knowing the person living with dementia and how we may best support them. This includes a comprehensive assessment along with a ‘Life Story’ which allows us to offer personalized and person-appropriate interactions. Residents of Teakwood Way are provided opportunities for meaningful engagements each day, including:
- Physical Movement & Exercise
- Creative Expression
- Cognitive Games & Stimulation
- Spiritual / Religious opportunities
- Celebrations & Social events
- Self-care & Life Skill activities
Our caregivers are provided with the most up to date dementia education that allows them to understand the disease and effectively engage with our residents. This includes staff participating in the Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care training (through the NCCDP) that certifies them as a ‘Certified Dementia Practitioner’. On-going and required education is also provided on important areas of care, including: communication, response to behaviors, self-care, meaningful activities, cultural competence and many more related-topics.
We know that dementia can affect the whole family, and we are here for you. We take pride in providing outreach and education for families and community members who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia-related disorders. We also have a respite care program which offers short-term care to individuals so that caregivers have time to attend to their own needs.
