Our Story

It is a special calling to care for the youngest patients, whether those born with congenital disorders or having later suffered debilitating injuries. It was an answer to this calling that began our story in 1989, when Truman & Jane Smith — philanthropists, entrepreneurs and devoted parents — opened our facility to provide medically fragile children a loving environment to receive care.

Mr. Smith was a private man who did not want to be in the limelight. But despite his wishes, his employees unanimously voted to name the facility Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center.

In 2005, we became part of the Nexion family of care communities and continue to deliver compassionate, personalized and responsible healthcare to children with complex medical needs.
